Before America’s embarrassing failure to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia, American soccer appeared to be on the up. Attendances for Major League Soccer matches were improving, television coverage for both domestic and overseas games had increased and most importantly, the men’s national team, which so often played second fiddle to the more esteemed women’s, consistently performed well on the international stage!
Alas, 2018 wasn’t meant to be for then men, but having qualified for every World Cup since 1990, we can forgive our boys for falling short this time round.
So instead of lamenting our absence in Russia, we thought we’d pay homage to a few notable players that have represented both the national team and even famous European clubs over the years and thus set a precedent for more homegrown stars like Christian Pulisic to follow in their paths.
